Samuel D. Daas of Troy, age 73, passed away on August 13, 2022 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was the dear husband of Linda A. Super Daas, loving brother of Anna Najjar (the late Assad) and Sandra Fry, brother-in-law of Dianne Foley (the late James), son-in-law of Joyce Super (the late John, DDS), and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Sam is preceded in death by his nephew, David Najjar, and by his parents, Elias and Virginia Daas.
Sam was born in Detroit on April 1, 1949. He was raised in Livonia, MI in a neighborhood filled with close-knit families, lots of childhood friends and plenty to do including Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Sam enjoyed little league sports and continued into high school with football and tennis at Livonia s Franklin High School, where he graduated in 1967 as an honor roll student. Sam was a member of numerous school choirs and acted in school plays. He was also very active in student government. While in high school, Sam also worked part time in a men s clothing store, Richmond Brothers.
Sam is a 1971 alumnus of Eastern Michigan University, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon social fraternity. While in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1974, he served at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and in Germany. Sam also spent time working in the auto factory during the summers while in college.
Following military service, Sam was an English teacher at Plymouth-Salem High School where he also was an assistant coach for their football team. Sam continued in the field of education which was so important to him, to become an assistant principal at Norup Middle School in Berkley. He then served many years as an assistant principal at Berkley High School. He retired in 2008.
Sam was best known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He was also known for his life-long love of singing, whether in choir, at karoke-type restaurants, or at various school events. Sam stepped up. Sam s other interests include cars and attending the Dream Cruise, biking, golfing, traveling especially to his Florida condo, reading and watching all sports and old Westerns.
Sam was a very caring, generous, and honest man who was a true friend to many. He will be sorely missed.

Sam was a great friend to my brother Drew and me in our close knit Livonia neighborhood. His entire family were wonderful people.
