Richard Rene DeHem

Richard "Rick" Rene DeHem, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication that touched all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a cherished brother and uncle, and a treasured friend to many.
Born on March 30, 1955 to Laura and Marcel DeHem, Rick was raised with the values of hard work, loyalty, and kindness-principles that he carried with him throughout his life and passed on to his children. He dedicated nearly 30 years of service to Hiram Walker as a Bottling Engineer, a role that perfectly suited his passion for machines, problem solving, and precision work.
Rick's life was full of passion beyond his profession. He found joy in gardening, camping, woodworking, and working with his hands. He especially delighted in creating and displaying an elaborate Christmas setup each year, complete with moving and interactive characters. This tradition brought wonder and joy to countless area residents and became a beloved local fixture during the holiday season.
But above all else, Rick's heart belonged to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy DeHem, with whom he shared a lifetime of laughter and unwavering companionship. They were married on June 18, 1976. Together they raised three children: Michelle Deaton, Scott DeHem, and Brian DeHem (Holly). Rick was immensely proud of them and poured his energy and devotion into being a guiding presence in their lives.
He was also a deeply involved and adoring grandfather to his six grandchildren-Connor and Brandon Deaton; Elijah DeHem; and Kadence, Albert, and Lincoln DeHem. His love and commitment to his grandchildren were evident in everything he did, and his legacy will live on in their hearts.
Rick is also survived by his beloved sister Elizabeth Thebert, along with many nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends who knew him for his warmth, his humor, and his tireless generosity. He was preceded in death by his sisters Lillian and Theresa, and his parents, Laura and Marcel DeHem.
Those who knew Rick will remember his infectious laugh, his quick wit, and his willingness to lend a hand or offer a clever solution to any challenge. He was the kind of man who never stopped working-not because he had to, but because he loved building, fixing, and creating for the people he loved.
He was, without question, the most hardworking man we knew. His legacy of love, determination, and joyful spirit will continue to inspire all of us who had the honor of knowing him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and a funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at River Glenn Funeral Home.
