Richard Roland Dex Obituary
Richard Roland Dex, age 85, of
Hartland, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on May 4, 1940, in
Allentown, Pennsylvania, to John Dex and Theresa (Spanitz) Dex, and was the loving husband of the late Dolores Dex. Richard lived a full and meaningful life and left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He had a big personality, was quick witted, and a sharp sense of humor that stayed with him until the very end. He loved deeply, laughed often, and always found a way to bring a smile to those around him, even during difficult moments. He truly enjoyed the excitement of life. Richard loved going to the casino and traveling, appreciating the adventure and the simple joy of getting out and experiencing the world. Staying connected mattered deeply to him. Even at age 85, he made a point to FaceTime family and loved ones often, sharing stories, checking in, and reminding everyone how much they meant to him right up until his final moments.
Richard took great pride in his rosebushes and his yard, finding peace in tending to them and joy in watching things grow. A talented cook, he showed his love through food, generosity, and simply being there. One of his favorite sayings was that it was 10 times easier to smile than it was to frown, a belief he carried with him throughout his life.
At the heart of Richard's world was his faith and his devotion to his beloved wife, Dolores. Their love was the foundation of his life. He missed her deeply, and while he fought bravely until the very end, he was ready to go home, reunited with Dolores and welcomed into the presence of the Lord. He passed peacefully, exactly as he wished, surrounded by family. A faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Richard will be remembered for his warmth, humor, generosity, and the deep love he poured into his family.
His Family… Richard is lovingly remembered by his children, Linda Barbera, Mary Matteucci, and Tina Crossman, and by his siblings, Lillian Giacobbe, Helen Semler, and Eddie Dex. He was a proud grandfather to Richard, Toni, Lori, John, Jacob, Ryan, Mallory, and Grace, and a cherished great grandfather to Grant, Bryce, Joshua, Luke, Matthew, Eleanor, Hudson, Boston, and Raelynn. He is also survived by many extended family members who will miss him deeply. Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores Dex, his parents John and Theresa Dex, and his siblings Theresa, Johnny, Joe, Willie, and Mitsy.
His Farewell… Family and friends will gather Friday, January 30, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, with the Rosary recited at 9:30 AM, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Father Francis George will serve as celebrant.
