Richard ’Dick, Dickie Jo, Buck’ Leonard Buchanan, 76 of West Terre Haute, passed away on Sunday, April 14th, 2024 at 12:12, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Terre Haute on September 6th,1947 to George Buchanan and Alma Marie (Couch) Buchanan.
He was a United States Navy veteran, retired coal miner, and Vigo Co. Sheriff Deputy. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with family and friends. He married the love of his life, Melody Jan Cardinal on January 8th, 1971. They were married 53 great years.
Dick is survived by his wife, Melody, 3 daughter, Jami (Kevin), Kim (Greg), and Jana (Brian); 6 grandchildren, Levi (Mary), Collin, Luke (Lydia), Callee, Caiden (Breanna), and Carter (Hayley); 8 great grandchildren – Lailynn, Autumn, Keaton, Craig, Haley, Jayln, Madilynn, Paisley, and Adalee; 4 grand dogs, Ruby, Marley, Bella, Zypher, Zazu, Nova, Chop, Sophia and Mazie; several special nieces and nephews; Sister, Kathy Hogue; Brother in laws and sister in laws, Chuck and Karen Cardinal and Mike and Kim Dyer.
Dick was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Linda Smith. Brother in law John Hogue, in laws; Chuck and Marge Cardinal, grand dog, Max.
In keeping with Dicks wishes cremation was chosen. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, April 18th, 2024 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm in the funeral home. A dinner honoring Richard will immediately follow visitation at the Young Men’s Club in West Terre Haute. The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for their loving care. Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
