Richard "Dick" Charles Fisk

 

Richard C. Fisk age 94 of Mankato died Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at his home.

 

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday June 5, 2023, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato. Burial with Military Honors will be at Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 – 5 p.m., Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and one before the service at the church on Monday.

In lieu of flowers memorials to “The Mankato Area Veterans Memorial Rifle Squad.”

 

Richard C. Fisk was born on April 8, 1929, in Amboy, MN to Charles L. and Clara (Anderson) Fisk. Richard was raised in Madelia, MN and attended school there until graduating in 1947. In July of the same year Richard enlisted into the US Navy serving until May of 1950. January of 1951 Richard enlisted in the US Air Force and served continuously until he retired in April of 1968. He was united in marriage Shirley on November 22, 1969. Richard continued a “Military” career after retirement from active duty in the US Air Force by his employment as a US Government Federal civilian employee with the Department of the Army, working for 20 years in Mankato as an Administrative Technician with the US Army Reserve Program. When on active duty with the USAF he served three years overseas in the Far East during the Korean Conflict and in Europe for two tours totaling seven years during the “Cold War”. Richard served as a “Weatherman” in both the Navy and Air Force. He also served seven years in the USAF Security Service during his tours in the Far East and Europe. Richard was proud of his combined 40 years of service with the Department of Defense either on active duty or as a civilian employee. After retiring as a federal employee in 1990 Richard has been active in the American Legion Programs. He was a long-time member of the Color Guard/Honor Guard/Firing Squad, since 1971 and 23 years as the leader of this group as the Sgt-at-Arms. He was a “Past Commander” of Post 11 American Legion, and served the 2nd District American Legion as an Adjutant and two time as Sgt-at-Arms. He served also as Chef de Gare of Voiture 281, of the 40 & 8.

 

Having seen much of the world “The Hard Way” during his Military Service, he continued to travel “The Easy Way’ in his retirement years with his wife Shirley as his Personal Tour Guide!

 

Richard is survived by his wife, Shirley; two children, Jeff (Deb) Kessler, Cheri (Terry) Arens; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

 

Preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Betty and Helen; brother, Francis.
