Richard "Dick" Griffith Obituary
Wellman-Richard “Dick” Dean Griffith was born January 12, 1935 in Wellman, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Gertrude (Berger) Griffith. He graduated from Wellman High School. Dick served 4 years for the United States Air Force. Dick was united in marriage to Marjorie Polton on August 12, 1955, in Biloxi, MS To this union they were blessed with four boys. Marjorie died November 19, 1995. Dick later married Gilberta Walker. He was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed golfing, being on the farm, watching the San Antonio Spurs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Dick died on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 87 years.
He is survived by his wife Gilberta of Coralville; two sons, Philip Griffith of Wellman and Joel (Kaitlynn) Griffith of Rochester, Vermont; 7 grandchildren, Jessica, Jeri, Jared, Sarah, Tyler, Emily and Erica; 17 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marjorie, two sons, John and Kendall and a sister Lois Topping.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. A private family burial will take place at the Wellman Cemetery Wednesday, December 14, 2022. A memorial fund has been established for the Wellman Ambulance.
