Retired police officer Richard Lee Dillon, Sr., 75, of Bluefield, WV, passed unexpectedly on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
Born August 10, 1949, in Gary, WV, he was a son of the late Wade and Mable Harless Dillon. Richard had been a resident of Bluefield for over 40 years but formerly resided in McDowell County. While living in McDowell County, he served valiantly for over 30 years as a police officer in the area. He was a hard worker and loved his family dearly. Richard was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his wife, of 51 years, Patty Sue Bennett Dillon, a daughter, Mable Bradley, his son, Richard Lee Dillon, Jr., sisters, Judy Cassidy, Cora Shrader, Jean Lowery, Vada Szaller, Louise Lee, and Katherine Bolden, brother, Wade Dillon, Jr., and a great grandson, Reece Mitchem.
Those left to cherish Richard's memory are his son, Wade Dillon, of Bluefield, VA; daughters, Kathy Phillips and Craig of Elliston, VA, Mary Mitchem and Roy Mitchem of Bluefield, WV, and Dorothy Duncan, of Bluefield, WV, Son in law Daniel Bradley of Bandy VA. One Daughter in law Michelle Dillon of Bluefield WV. One adopted son Clinton Dillon and Sarah of Bluefield VA; brothers, Raymond Dillon, and Jack Dillon; 8 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, and 16 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 12:00 PM, at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Daniel Bradley officiating. Burial is to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield, VA, with Chris Puckett, Matthew Bradley, Roy Mitchem, Richard Dillon, and Melvin Romeo serving as pallbearers. A visitation will be held two hours prior to services, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, at the funeral home.
Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Dillon family.
