Richard William Dracup

Richard William Dracup passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, at 10:20 p.m. in Newport, Oregon, surrounded by the love of his family.

A celebration of his life will be held in July 2026, on what would have been his 78th birthday. Details will be shared at a later date.

Born in Jamestown, New York to James M. Dracup and Carol Mae Dracup, Richard-known affectionately as Dad, Drake, Chunky, RD, and most proudly, Grampy-graduated with honors from Jamestown High School. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he followed in the footsteps of his father as a talented carpenter and contractor, later working with the U.S. Forest Service during his semi-retirement.

Richard lived life with a big heart and a free spirit. He was a man of many passions: the great outdoors, classic rock and roll, motorcycles, reading, horseshoes, holiday feasts, the Buffalo Bills, concerts, playing pool and euchre, and always enjoying a good laugh.

A true tinkerer and lifelong collector of curious finds, Richard believed that everything-and everyone-had a story worth saving. He had a gift for connecting with people, always drawn to the spirit behind the object or the soul behind the smile.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Holly Silvonen, and her husband, Clayton; his granddaughters, Jillian Silvonen, Mahallah Childs, Sesha Silvonen, and Finley (his beloved "Finny") Silvonen; his brother, Thomas Dracup, and Tom's children; as well as the children of his late brother, Jim Dracup. He is also remembered by his cherished chosen family, Jackie, Moonicorn and the crew of Ashville, NY. Richard also remained close to his extended family through his former wife and lifelong friend, Cathleen Webb, who continued to be an important part of his life.

Richard was adventurous, generous, intelligent, and creative-an original thinker. He brought joy to those around him, and his memory will be carried forward with love and laughter by all who knew him.
