Richard "Rick" E. Durham, 64, of Lexington, KY passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 25, 2026, of acute idiopathic pancreatitis. Rick will be remembered for many things but especially for his dedication to his family and his strong faith. Rick received his PhD from the University of Florida and spent the last 25 years as a horticulture professor at the University of Kentucky. He enjoyed teaching college students and especially advising the UK Horticulture Club. He loved the outdoors and all things plants. He was known for his knack of growing orchids and recently became interested in carnivorous plants.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis M. Durham, and Madaline Cain Durham; brother, Frank; sister, Carolyn Durham McNew, and niece, Danielle Durham.

Rick is survived by his wife of 34 years, Felecia, and their three children: Anna Durham Cook (Wesley) of Houston, TX, Emily Durham of Louisville, KY, and Luke Durham of Santa Clara, CA. He is also survived by one brother, David Durham (JoEl Ford); niece (Candi Flynn) and nephew (Charles "Chip" McNew). Rick is survived by many other beloved family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Gospel Collective Church in Lexington, KY. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm.

The family welcomes flowers and plants and also invites donations to the UK Horticulture Club or the Gospel Collective Church Landscaping Fund in loving memory of Rick. When sending flowers, please send to Gospel Collective Church - 2601 Clays Mill Road, Lexington, KY 40503
