Richard "Dick" Easling, Sr., age 78, of Beaver Dams (Post Creek), NY, passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024. Born on July 13th, 1945, in Corning, NY, to the late Ernest Alton Easling, Sr. and Fern (Card) Easling, Dick's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to family, service, and community.
Dick was an attendee of Northside High School. He was also a proud member of the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967. He served in the Vietnam War aboard the USS Hamner. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of E5.
Upon returning home, Dick began his career with the Town of Catlin as a Heavy Equipment Machine Operator, a role he held until 1978. His commitment to service continued when he joined Corning Inc. that year, where he worked diligently as a multiskilled operator until his retirement from the Big Flats plant in 2005. Throughout his tenure, Dick was an active member of USW Local 1000, serving as a dedicated union officer.
On May 21, 1967, Dick married the love of his life, Gladys "Susie" Swarthout. Together, they celebrated 58 years of marriage and raised their beloved children: Tom (Karen) Kessler, Tonya (Kevin) Miller, Tammy (late Tom, Jr.) Paluch, Trudy (Marti) Simons, Bobbie (Wes) Latham, Cynthia (Jerry) Aldrich, and Richard (Kelly) Easling, Jr.
In his leisure time, Dick found joy in cheering on the Yankees, tinkering with and trading tractors, virtually watching his grandson's races, and all aspects of farming. His deep faith in Jesus Christ and unwavering dedication to family were central to his life, influencing generations of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Susie; all seven of his children; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren (with one more on the way); and siblings, Shirley Scott and Janice (David) Gee. Dick is predeceased by his brothers, Earl and Ernest, Jr., Elmer Borden; and son-in-law, Tom Paluch, Jr.
In accordance with Dick's wishes, a private service will be held to honor his life and legacy.
Dick will be remembered fondly for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and the love he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of family devotion and faith will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
Richard's family has entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
