Richard Wayne Fish, beloved husband, father, and community member, entered eternal life on September 1, 2025, at the age of 87.
Born and raised in
Chico, California, Richard spent his early years in the community that would always remain close to his heart. He graduated from Chico High School, where he was both an athlete and a musician-playing football and often running for touchdowns, performing with the marching band on horn, and playing bass fiddle in the jazz band. He was honored to represent California at The National High School Band Conference in Washington, D.C., as the state's sole delegate. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and joined annual hunting trips for deer and elk in Oregon with his father and uncles.
Richard earned his bachelor's degree from Chico State University, working three jobs to support himself: driving a school bus for Chico Unified, delivering bulk milk to Paradise, and working as a janitor at a U.S. Army training facility. During his junior year, he married Mary Ashbaugh, and together they raised two children, Terry Tutino and Mark Fish, who were his greatest pride.
He also served eight years in the U.S. Army National Guard at Camp Davis, California, where he taught rifle training and other classes during his service.
After graduation, Richard began his career at UC Davis in the Research Department, testing grapes for wine production while also earning his teaching credential from California Community College. He later joined Del Monte Foods, where he dedicated 42 years of service. His career took him from the Modesto Cannery to general supervisor in Kingsburg, and eventually to Del Monte's corporate offices in San Francisco. There, he helped guide the company through transitions and represented it at both national and international conferences. His leadership and contributions left a lasting impact on the food processing industry. Richard retired in 1999.
In retirement, Richard remained deeply engaged in his community. He was active in the Concord SIRS, the Striped Bass Association, and served in leadership roles with the Merced and Pleasanton PTAs.Richard also participated in the Parkinsons Choir. After building a home in Forest Ranch, he continued his service through the Forest Ranch Community Association, SIRS, and the Center for Spiritual Living in Chico. He will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, leadership, and deep commitment to others.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn McKeown-Fish; his daughter, Terry Tutino; his son, Mark Fish (Kathy Meyer); and many extended family members and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held on his 88th birthday, October 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Forest Ranch Community Center. Arrangements are with Brusie Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Center for Spiritual Living Chico, 14 Hillary Lane,
