Richard Harry Gainsforth Jr. passed away at home on August 29th, 2024. "Big Rick" was a beloved family man and retired diesel mechanic. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Richard Harry Sr. and Donna Gainsforth. He was raised with his two brothers, sister, and twin sister. Rick spent many of his earlier years in the Midwest. After four honorable years serving his country in the United States Army, Rick worked for over forty-two years at Utah Transit Authority. He was married to Debra Gainsforth for forty-one years and was a loving father to his son and two stepdaughters. His six grandchildren all looked up to him as a gentle giant. He was a second father to his daughter-in-law for over twenty years. He had a kind heart and stoic demeanor. He will be greatly missed by his brothers, sisters, and parents.
Big Rick was so much more than a son, husband, father, and grandfather, he was an everyday hero. He was a light to everyone he encountered, dropping everything to help anyone. He was a massive Minnesota Vikings fan with a brick with his name on it at US Bank Stadium. He was a proud smoker and avid Diet Mt. Dew drinker, these were accessories that defined him. He loved watching Walker, Texas Ranger, and knew every episode by heart. He loved to cook his famous Christmas treats and his delicious Harley dip.
Rick is survived by his wife Debra; his son Derrick; his stepchildren Christie and Shauntil; his parents "Dick" and Donna; siblings Kathy, Diane, Mike, and Rod.
Services will be held on Friday, September 6th at 9:00 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, UT 84092)
