Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes - Lansing Chapel on Dec. 13, 2025.
Richard Edward Garmyn, a cherished pillar of his community and a beacon of warmth to all who knew him, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, in
Lansing, Michigan. Born on December 23, 1935, in
Van Wert, Ohio, Richard's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.
Richard was the beloved patriarch of a large and loving family. He is survived by his devoted children Gary Garmyn, Cathy Garmyn, Thomas (Carrie) Garmyn, Keith (Jane) Garmyn and Mo (Toby) Parisian. Grandchildren, Brittany, Brandon, Justin, Carly, Bradley, Evan, and Blake. Great-grandchildren, Bennett, Murphy, Calvin, Aiden, and Ryann.
Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia Garmyn, parents, Victor and Pauline Garmyn, his son Craig Garmyn, brother Steve Garmyn, and daughter-in-law Gretchen Garmyn.
An alumnus of St. Mary's, Richard graduated in the class of 1953. His education served as the foundation for his successful career as a longtime business owner of Vic Garmyn and Sons. He poured his heart into his work, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the broader community.
Richard's interests were a reflection of his vibrant spirit. His passion for flowers was evident in the beautiful gardens he cultivated, each bloom a testament to his care and attention to detail. A staunch supporter of local high school sports, he could often be found cheering on the football teams, especially those from Lansing Catholic. As a charter member of St. Therese, his faith and community were intertwined, and he served both with grace and enthusiasm. Richard's love for Michigan State University sports was only rivaled by his excitement for horse racing, a pastime that captured his imagination and sense of adventure.
Richard's life was a testament to the power of love and the importance of family. He was a man who built a legacy not just through his business, but through the relationships he nurtured and the lives he enriched. His warm smile, hearty laugh, and the wisdom he shared will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Richard, we do so with immense gratitude for the time we shared with him. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories we tell and the love we continue to share. Rest in peace, dear Richard, until we meet again.
