Richard Warren Garner, 60, of Gloucester, VA peacefully passed away at home on September 4, 2025 after a brief but hard-fought battle with bone cancer. Richard was born on February 8, 1965, in California on Edward's Airforce Base, the son of Jerry Bernard Garner and Margaret Ann Gunn Garner. He grew up in Beaufort, North Carolina where he found a true passion for fishing and a deep connection to the water. After graduating from Havelock Highschool, he later went on his pursuit in the U.S Military as an E-5 Watercraft Seargeant stationed in Panama, to which he dedicated himself for over 11 years. After honorably serving his country, he returned to the states to continue life and begin a family. He then went on to work in many different professions like McCleans where he worked on tugboats, as well as 15 years at Wal-Mart. Working to always put his family first, there is nothing he wouldn't do for his children. With so much seen and done in his life, he had many stories to tell. Richard is survived by his sister, Tina Nabors; uncle, Kenneth Garner; four children, Richard Garner Jr., Randi René Powers (Noah "Dylan" Powers), Gabriel Lewis, and Jerry Garner; four grandchildren, Jadenn, Riley, Corey and Adalynn; as well as life-long friends and one very special loving and devoted friend, Stacey Lewis who was there until the end. In honor of his memory, donations can be made to DAV, https://help.dav.org/.
