Richard Ansel Goodwin

June 25, 1932 — December 17, 2023

Richard (Dick) A. Goodwin passed away peacefully on December 17, 2023, at the age of 91, in El Paso, Texas.  Memorial services will be held Friday, December 29, 2023 at 10:30 am at First United Methodist Church in Roswell.

Dick was born June 25, 1932 in New Haven, Connecticut to Harold and Evelyn Goodwin.  He was raised in North Conway, New Hampshire and graduated from Kennett High School in Conway, New Hampshire.  After graduation he entered the United States Air Force and became a tail gunner on B-36’s and B-52’s.  He served in the Air Force for 20 years and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant.  He was stationed at Air Force bases in Texas, Colorado, Washington, Massachusetts, New Mexico, and California in addition to temporary duty assignments in Guam, England, Spain, and many other countries.  While Dick was stationed at Lowry AFB in Denver, Colorado he met his future wife Patricia A. Dowell.  After a two-year courtship, he and Pat were married in Denver on August 30, 1952.  After his retirement from the military in 1970, they moved back to Roswell where Dick opened his own business, “Audio Only” (a sound repair and equipment shop) and later went to work at “Mack’s Camera Center”.  Both he and Pat became active members of the Roswell First United Methodist Church and community.  Dick was active in local church activities, a delegate to Methodist Conferences, Walk to Emmaus, Landsun Methodist Home in Carlsbad, Sunday School, and Roswell First United Methodist Monday Morning Men’s Prayer Group.  He was also a member of the Roswell Noon Optimist Club and a bell ringer for The Salvation Army.  He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to camp, hunt, and fish.

Dick’s loving dedication to his family also extended into his friendships and church family.  He had a steadfast faith and love for Jesus in his heart that will leave a lasting legacy for his family and friends.

He is survived by his two children, his son Robert and wife Ginger of Colorado Springs, Colorado and his daughter Lynda (Goodwin) Brown of Roswell.  His grandchildren are Tom Goodwin and wife Brianna of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Traci (Goodwin) Hendrickson of Owasso, Oklahoma; James Brown and wife Stephanie of Roswell; and David Brown and wife Kacy of Roswell.  He is survived by eleven great-grandchildren: Maxon and Thayer Goodwin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Grace, Olivia, Emery, and Lane Hendrickson of Owasso, Oklahoma; Cameron and Luke Brown of Roswell; and Landry, Drake, and Ridge Brown of Roswell.  He is also survived by his Sisters-in-law Mary B Goodwin of Mashpee, Massachusetts; Betty Drake and husband Paul of Moab, Utah; Mary Taylor of Grand Junction, Colorado; Florence Porter of Cortez, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Dick was preceded in death by his parents; wife Patricia A. Goodwin; brother Edmund E. Goodwin; and brothers-in-law Jim Taylor and Charlie Porter.
