Richard Herbert Gullicksen, age 81, passed away unexpectedly at Casa De Vida in Scottsdale, Arizona on October 12, 2025. Funeral arrangements and burial are private and military memorial services will be conducted at a later date.
Richard was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 25, 1943 to Mary Magadlin (Altepeti) and Roland Hessler Gullicksen. He was raised in Northfield, Illinois, attending New Trier High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduation and served his country for over four years.
After returning from service, Richard used his military experience to obtain a job as a computer programmer and IT Specialist for Allstate Insurance in Northbrook, Illinois.
Richard was a super avid Chicago fan! He followed the Chicago Bears, Chicago Blackhawks and of course his Chicago Cubs. He and his wife, the late Susan Gullicksen were dog lovers and adopted and relocated across the country to Scottsdale, Arizona. They purchased their home complete with a swimming pool and enjoyed their semi-retirement over thirty years ago. They both enjoyed the scenic views and warm weather.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Marie Gullicksen and his brother Frank Paulis. He is survived by his stepdaughter Jennifer Wheeler and his step-grandson Alexander Vlaovic. Richard was grateful for all the wonderful care he received from "family" from other places over the years, his neighbor John Whittrock, his caregiver Liz, his caregiver Ritzie and many other staff members of his retirement (assisted living) home. He was happy these last years in his beautiful mansion of a care facility, watching his television shows, playing with his iPhone, watching sports and socializing with other of his age group. Rich will be remembered for his bad dad jokes, his love of 50's music, his love of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Chicago Blackhawks. A few of his passions were: Chicago style thin crust pizza, plain M&M, Diet Pepsi and computer video games.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to an animal shelter or veteran's organization. Cheer on the Chicago Cubs baseball team as well as "Da Bears", and resist MAGA & Trump.
