Richard C. Hadfield, age 87, passed away the morning of Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Grace M. (VanderLinde) Hadfield to whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Providence, he was the second of four children born to the late Warren and Pauline R. (Rondeau) Hadfield.
Born with a strong work ethic, he spent ten years working for Providence Gas before moving on to the Walter F. Morris Co. where he devoted 36 years to their sales department, eventually retiring as the Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He also belonged to various professional organizations. Among them, the New England Gas Association (NEGA), New England Plumbing and Heating Wholesalers Association (NEWA), New England Fuel Institute (NEFI) and the Guild of Ancient Suppliers which was a trade organization. When he wasn't working, his passion was spending time meticulously working in his yard and gardens, where his attentions to detail was evident to all who passed by. He was willing to tackle on any project, because there truly was nothing he could not do or fix. Richard also enjoyed fishing, classic cars and bowling. He bowled in multiple leagues, however, his most notable time bowling was with the 'Sunday Night Hackers', a team comprised of his wife, children and other family members. He lived life to the fullest and is going to be missed tremendously by all those who knew and loved him.
Richard was the devoted father of William 'Bill' Hadfield (wife, Robin), Deborah Barnes (husband, Stephen), Tamara Milone (husband, Matthew) and the late John Hadfield; former father-in-law of Christine Hadfield; cherished 'Grampa' and 'Pop' of Krysten, Ryan, Steve Jr., Lauren, Mackenzie, Landon, Shannon and Kyle and the great-'Poppy' of Bailey, Liam and Ivy. He was the brother of Ronald Hadfield, Robert Hadfield and Claire Riviello.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 9am-12pm with a Funeral Ceremony at 12pm in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. His burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to Beacon Hospice, 300 Centerville Road Suite 202 East, Warwick, Rhode Island 02886 or Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 will be appreciated.
