Richard "Dick" Halverson, age 76, of Howards Grove, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on June 21, 2022, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
Dick was born on October 12, 1945, to Donald and Crystal (Hartig) Halverson in Ashland, WI. He attended Trinity Lutheran Elementary in Sheboygan and graduated from Sheboygan North High School with the class of 1964. After high school, Dick enlisted in the United States Air Force in June of 1964 and served for four years with the US Air Force Military Police. On September 21, 2002, Dick was united to Jeannine Steinhardt at Grace Lutheran Church in Haven, WI. Dick worked as an engineer at Kohler Generator until his retirement in 2009. After he retired, Dick started working at the Sports Core and found a passion for helping others in the work that he did there.
Dick loved to go camping – especially in Peninsula State Park and Kohler Andrae State Park. He greatly enjoyed going to Road America and was part of the 'Turn 3 Gang.'
He was a member of the Kettle Moraine Corvette Club. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan.
Dick will forever be remembered by his loving wife, Jeannine Halverson; children, Richard "Dee" Jr. (Jennifer) Halverson, Lisa (Vaughn) Verhulst, Shannon (Kirk) Mayfield, and Jason Halverson; stepchildren, Joshua (Shawna Terry) Steinhardt and Jenny (Tim) Bartz; grandchildren, Tanya, Brittany, Alexis, Ashley, Evan, Caden, Jocelyn Rae, Jack, and Emmy; great-grandchild, Conner; siblings, Donna (Frank) King, Mary (Ski) Kuzinski, Janice (Jimmy) Gorter, Arthur "Butch" (Diane) Stolzman, Bill (Nancy) Stolzman, and Larry Halverson; brother-in-law, Duane (Ann) Wunsch; former wives, Shirley Oehldrich and Sue Greger; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leslie and Romelda (Zimmermann) Wunsch; and other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, July 15th, 2022, at Zimmer-Westview Funeral Home with Pastor Adam Barkley and Pastor Timothy Mech officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM prior to Dick's service at the funeral home. Dick's service will be livestreamed and viewable at a later date on his obituary page at www.zimmerfuneralhome.com.
Dick's family would like to thank the staff at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, and the Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center for their compassionate care and support.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dick's name.
