Richard Joseph "Butch" Hettwer, 83, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at his home.
Butch was born in Le Mars, Iowa on May 30, 1942 to the late Joseph and Sadie (Grothe) Hettwer. He was a truck driver for over 40 years. Butch was a member of The Order of Owls Club Nest 30 and the River Bend Association. He enjoyed being outdoors, taking care of his house, and cutting his lawn. His favorite thing to do was traveling with his wife, Darlene, as much as they could. Butch will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Butch is survived by his daughter, Lori Barnett of Granite City, IL; son, Richard Hettwer (Nell) of Granite City, IL; sisters, Mary Luscher and Shirley Hettwer; step-daughters, Martye Fitts (Allen) of Wadesville, IN, Kellye Ramsey (David) of Evansville, IN, and Donna Stonner of Franklin, NJ; step son, Martyn Laughlin of Ft. White, FL; grandchildren, Topper Ramsey, Scott, Braiden, Cody, and Patrick Fitts, Richie Hettwer, Chris Hettwer, Sam Gushleff, Loran Kromray, Asa Kromray, and Taylor Bolden; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Butch was preceded in death by his wife of 19 years, Darlene Rae Gibbs-Hettwer; his parents; and by seven siblings.
A celebration of Butch's life will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 with Pastor Steve Clayton officiating.
Friends may visit from 2:00 pm until service time on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Browning Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to It Takes A Village Rescue, 1417 Stockwell Rd., Evansville, IN 47715.
