Richard E. Hildebrand

Richard E. Hildebrand entered into eternal rest on November 3, 2025 at 95 years of age. He was born in York, PA to the late Clarence E. and Mary D. (Hilbert) Hildebrand. He was the 7th generation direct descendant of Johannes Hildebrand who emigrated from Switzerland in 1743, settling in southern York County, beginning the Hildebrand family history in America.
After graduating from York Catholic High School in 1947, he worked at the York Bus Co. before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps., serving four years including stationed at Marine Headquarters during the Korean War. Upon discharge he returned home to work at the Naval Ordnance Plant, where he met his wife of 65 years, Dolores Hildebrand, who passed away in 2019. After more than three decades of direct government service with the U.S. Navy and another decade in service to them through the private sector, he finally retired.
Richard loved the outdoors, including fishing and hunting, and enjoyed walking his faithful canine companions, Sneakers and Fritz, over the many years of his retirement. He began his volunteer service to the York Catholic High School Athletic Association in the 1970's, working the next 40 years at bingo, football and basketball games, and was inducted into their Hall of Fame for his extensive dedicated service. He loved the YCHS family and even volunteered in the high school cafeteria a couple days a week well into his late 80's.
He is survived by three children: Stephen and wife Carol, Mark and wife Carolyn, Diane Yocum and husband Donald, and their numerous children and his grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 309 S. George St. in York, where he was a member since birth, on Nov. 11th from 10:00am to 11:00am, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be immediately following at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
