Richard M. Hunter, Sr., age 86 of Macclenny passed away Monday, April 7, 2025. Richard was born in Starke on August 5, 1938 to Mr. Roy and Elsie May (Batten) Hunter, Sr. and was raised in Louisiana. He would make his way back to Florida and settled in Baker County in 1955. He would marry the love of his life, Patsy, on April 22, 1958 and they enjoyed nearly seventy years of memories together. Richard ran several service stations in Macclenny over the years. He was also a founding member of the Baker County Fair Association and was very involved with the fair for many years. He enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting in his free time. Richard was also a skilled mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Roy Hunter, Jr., Dwight Hunter, Jimmy Pigot, and Barbara Ellen Thomas; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Hunter; and a daughter, Wanda Louise Ellis.
He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Mrs. Patsy Hunter of Macclenny; sons, Richard (Debbie) Hunter, Jr. of Glen St. Mary and George David Hunter of Macclenny; grandchildren, Richard, Kevin, William, Mary, Brian, Nicki, Josh, Danielle, David, Jr., Tony, and Dustin; great-grandchildren, Kanyn, Isabella, Lochlan, Jacob, Ruby, Rheaelle, Rhett, Byron, Alex, Mallory, Aayla, Ayden, Carlee, Leland, Curtis, Cylie, and G.G.; a great-great grandchild on the way; and a brother, Ronnie Pigot.
The family will receive friends in the chapel of Guerry Forbes Funeral Home on Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held Friday, April 11, 2025 at Christian Fellowship Temple at 11:00 AM with Pastors David Thomas and Timmy Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at South Prong Cemetery.
