Richard (Dick) Johnson, age 79, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and devoted friend, was called home by his Heavenly Father on February 1, 2026, in his home surrounded by family after a courageous struggle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He and his twin sister, Nancy, were born in
Beloit, WI on January 28, 1947, the son of George and Sophie Johnson. He married Charlotte Ross on December 17, 1966, at Grace Methodist Church.
Dick enjoyed time with family and friends, and was a dedicated man of faith who believed in putting his faith into action. He was always willing to lend a hand to friends, family and neighbors-often recognizing a need and reaching out, even before being asked.
As member of Central Christian Church, he served several terms as an Elder, helped with Project Hope and projects for shut-ins and the elderly, was active in the Care food pantry, prayer, and guest services ministries and helped host guests at Night to Shine events. Dick was a volunteer for the Beloit Health System for over twenty years, serving many years on the VIP board and was always willing to do whatever was needed. He delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered for the Snappers and worked for RSVP on projects for the School District of Beloit.
After graduating from Beloit Memorial High School in 1965, Dick served in the Navy. He served at the Great Lakes Naval Station and was part of the U.S. Naval Support Activity in DaNang, Vietnam. He completed his service on the USS Hank (DD-702). He was discharged in 1969 and began work for Wisconsin Power and Light/Alliant Energy until his retirement in 2002. During his employment he was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 965 serving in a number of capacities including as Unit Chairman, and a member of several negotiation committees. He was elected as the Local 965 treasurer. As a retiree he served on the Board of the Retiree Club, serving as secretary.
Survivors include his wife Charlotte; sons James and John; grandchildren Rebecca, Darren (Kayla), Leanna, and Aaliyah Johnson; great grandson, James Bernard White III; brother Douglas (Diane) Johnson; stepbrother Ronald Baldwin; stepsister Karen Allen; brother-in-law Ed Ross (Dr. Linda Lafferty); several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father George I. Johnson, mother Sophie (Adelman) Johnson, stepmother Inez (Baldwin) Johnson and sister Nancy Johnson.
The family would like to thank Dr. Nabrinsky and the nurses and staff at the Beloit Cancer Center, Ashley and Brenda from Beloit Regional Hospice, and all the friends and family who have offered such prayerful support and encouragement during his difficult journey. You have been a blessing to Dick and all of us.
