LINCOLNVILLE – Richard A. Koski passed away peacefully after a brief stay at the Sussman House on Saturday, Nov 1, 2025, at the age of 95.
Richard Koski was born in Medford, MA on June 14, 1930, to parents Ethel (Queen) and Uuno Koski. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Carmolli, on February 22, 1951. Richard graduated from the University of Amherst, earning his BS in 1952 and his MS in Poultry Genetics and Physiology in 1954. Richard was a Korean War Veteran having served in the U.S. Army 10th Division, 1955-1956, including 18 months in Schweinfurt, Germany.
Upon returning to civilian life, Richard was employed by Wirthmore Feeds Inc, as assistant manager of the Wirthmore Research Farm in Berkley, MA. In 1965 the family moved to Lincolnville, ME where Richard served as Director of Breeding and Research for the Bayside Enterprises Division of Penobscot Poultry in
Belfast, ME until its closure some 23 years later. Simultaneously, Richard, Dorothy and their oldest son, Alan, were owners of The Bike Barn, a motorcycle and snowmobile dealership in Camden ME, 1978-1990, where Richard was often found in the parts dept.
In "retirement" Richard became an auto parts delivery man for Knox Brothers Big A in Camden ME; subsequently KBS Carquest in Rockport ME. Richard genuinely enjoyed working throughout his entire life and continued working fulltime into his early eighties delivering parts and assisting customers in the store.
Richard's civic duties included 8 years on the Lincolnville School Committee and 6 years as Cubmaster of Pack #244.
In his free time, Richard enjoyed visiting Owl Head Transportation Museum, having a meal oceanside at McLaughlin's Lobster Shack and exploring Maine's backroads by car.
Richard was a multi-talented individual in a variety of trades and exceptionally handy. These qualities served him well both professionally and personally his entire life. Richard loved living in Lincolnville. He lived in the same house he and Dorothy purchased (and restored) in 1965 through his final days; a remarkable 60 years.
Richard was predeceased by his parents and his wife of 68 years, Dorothy. He is survived by his son, R. Alan and his wife, Janet of Weld/Lincolnville ME, daughter, Dawn Koski of Lincolnville ME, and son Jonathan and his companion, Leslie Sylvia of Rockland ME, and sister, Priscilla Soukas of Henniker NH.
Special thanks to the MaineHealth Home Health and Hospice Team for their exceptional, unwavering support.
At Richard's request, there will be no funeral service, and his family will remember him privately.
