Richard P. Langevin, Sr., 91, a retired Worcester Fire Fighter, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022.
Dick was born in Worcester, son of Gideon L. and Irene (Berthiaume) Langevin. On June 7, 1952, he married the "Love of his life" Lucille A. Castano, and five months later he joined the U.S. Army during the Korea War, serving his country proudly. Upon discharge, and return to Worcester, Dick and Lucille began their life together devoted to faith, family and service until February 13, 2018 when Lucille left his side after 66 years of marriage. Dick was appointed to the Worcester Fire Department in 1959, serving as a member of the Providence Street Station "The Rock" Engine 12, and Ladder 5. He went on to serve in Fire Prevention, before retiring in 1995 after 36 years of service. When not at the fire Station, Dick worked as a self-employed contractor and mason.
Richard is survived by his two children, Cherylann Beer and her husband Lawrence of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., Richard P. Langevin, Jr. and his wife Mary in California; three grandchildren, Scott Joseph Beer and his wife Katie, Matthew Richard Beer and his wife Brittany, and Andrew Langevin; four great grandchildren, Cooper Stanley, Dawson David, Finley Elliott, and Natalie Lucille; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. One of four children, Richard was predeceased by a brother, Edgar, and two sisters, Lorraine George, and Anita Fournier.
He was a member of the former, St Margaret Mary, now St Anne's Church, a member and past president of the Worcester Firefighter relief Association and a member of the Local 1009, International brotherhood of Firefighters. Dickie loved to perform in the theatre productions for the firefighters association and other local theatre groups. He thoroughly loved to line dance, sing, and walked between 5 and 7 miles daily. A very sociable individual with a big smile and generous heart, Dickie was an uncle, father figure, and friend to many. He was the life of any party and would light up any room he entered and recently celebrated his 91st birthday with all his family surrounding him.
