Richard Louis Loftis, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 14, 1941 in Caswell County to the late Robert Franklin Loftis and Fannie Alice Hamlett Loftis, and was the husband of 58 years to Myra Ann McPherson Loftis who survives.
Richard retired after 33 years with IBM Corporation. He was a member of Kerrs Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon. Richard was a US Navy veteran, he enjoyed playing Senior League Softball, taking care of his horses, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was a loving Christian husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend who will be dearly missed.
Survivors other than his wife, Myra Ann McPherson Loftis include his daughter, Stephanie L. Maness; a son, John Loftis and wife April; grandchildren that he adored, Tyler Loftis and wife Sarah, Makayla Maness Scott and husband Colby, Aaron Hicks, Ashlyn Grace Loftis and Danielle Rayne Loftis; great grandson, Brantley Cole Loftis and one on the way, Colton Allen Scott; his brothers, Ralph Loftis, Roger Loftis, and James Loftis and wife Sandra; sisters, Irene West, Pearlie Mae Irby and Hope Lunsford; a brother-in-law, Banks Wade and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert “Gene” Loftis and one infant brother; sisters, Elaine Wade and Christine Cochran; an infant sister, Peggy Loftis; a son-in-law, Allen Maness; sisters-in-law, Frances "Nap" Loftis, Mary Loftis and Gail Loftis; and his brothers-in-law, Billy West, Bob Irby, Donald Lunsford and Johnny Cochran.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Kerrs Chapel Baptist Church by Rev. Paul Traywick and Pastor Kevin Bunn, with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45pm Thursday prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence.
