Richard J. Maas, age 79 resident of Sandy Pond died Friday at his home on Lakeshore Road. He was a resident of Sandy Pond for the past fifty years, previously living in Johnson City. Richard was born March 10, 1930 in Binghamton, the son of Jacob and Isabelle Drake Maas. He attended Johnson City Schools and he served in the United States Navy from 1950 until 1954. He married Johanna Kettlewell September 22, 1953 in Marathon, NY. Richard was employed by Carrier Corp as a millwright for 30 years. He was also an avid hunter, boater and outdoorsman.
Surviving: his wife, Johanna K., two sons, Gerald Mass of Tampa, FL and Daniel (Becky) Maas of Sandy Creek, three daughters Kathleen Stickane of Ithaca, Brenda Akkoul and her companion James Norden of Sandy Pond, and Pamela Maas of Pulaski, one sister Eloise (Elaine) Maas of Johnson City, five grandchildren Alyssa and Christopher Akkoul, Cory Maas, and Sarah and Devon Stickane. Richard is predeceased by one grandson Aaron Riddell.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home 52 Park Street, Pulaski with a burial in Pulaski Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Friends of Oswego County Hospice, Inc. P.O. Box 102 Oswego, NY 13216.
