Richard Maciejewski, aged 80, passed away on July 6, 2024. He was the cherished husband of Betty Maciejewski, with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Richard was born in Hamtramck, MI, on April 5, 1944, to Walter and Stella (Jasinski) Maciejewski. He attended St. Florian Catholic High School and later pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor's degree in History from Detroit Business Institute and a Master's degree in Library Science from Wayne State University. Richard dedicated many fulfilling years to his passion as Manager of the Municipal Reference Library at the Detroit City Council Building.
Richard loved the Detroit Lions and Tigers, and was a world class puzzle enthusiast. Richard proudly visited 47 states and 40 countries with his wife. As Betty and Rich raised their three kids, they were diligent in putting aside funds to ensure a family trip every summer. In his free time, he savored making memories with his grandchildren. At family parties and get-togethers, he spent more time playing blocks and puzzles with his grandchildren than he spent talking with the adults. Richard's infectious sense of humor always lightened the mood, and he delighted everyone with his quick wit and playful banter. Richard was very proud of his Polish heritage and dedicated countless hours to his genealogy.
A devoted member of St. Mary of the Hills in Rochester Hills, MI, Richard was a proud and active member of the Knights of Columbus for over 30 years, achieving the esteemed rank of fourth degree knight. He also served as a Eucharistic minister, served on the Christian Service Commission, helped with Meals on Wheels, and was a devoted Stephen Minister.
Despite many adversities early in life, including losing both of his parents by the age of 21, Richard lived a rich life of charity, humility, and kindness. He dedicated his life to serving and caring for his family, friends, and countless others in need - and all with a smile on his face. He is imprinted in the hearts of his wife, children, and grandchildren and many nieces and nephews as a strong example of the love of God - steadfast, patient and unconditional. He was kind, never complaining and always the first to make a sacrifice. He had the rare power to make everyone in a room feel special and loved. He prayed the rosary daily with Betty and fervently prayed at the foot of his bed every night for all those whom he knew.
Richard is survived and deeply loved by his beloved wife Betty, their three children Bob (Andrea), Ken, and Kirsten (Chris), and his eight adoring grandchildren: Isabella, Lily, Kaylee, Ceci, Connor, Anna, Camdyn, and Max. His family meant everything to him, and he leaves behind a profound legacy of love and service.
