Richard C. Maraglio, age 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on January 18, 2025 in Lake Katrine, New York. Richard is survived and missed by his loving wife Carla (nee Corbin) of 19 years, his 3 children with his first wife, Perry (wife Kelly), Darren (wife Marie) and Nicole, his daughter
Debbee Maraglio-Lynn (husband Steve) and son Scotty Reed; his 8 Grandchildren: Chelsea (32), John-Brennan (22), Jonah (15), Andrew (14), Amelia (12), Clair (11), Eliana (8) and Jack (8). Richard was the youngest of nine children and is survived by his brothers Nicholas Maraglio, Arthur Maraglio and sisters Lucille Perreira and Dolores Floge and 29 amazing nieces and nephews and their respective families. Richard is preceded in death by his loving wife, Joan (nee Clair), his parents Perry and Lucille Maraglio; brothers Perry John, Robert, Conrad and his sister Nancy Teixera.
Richard grew up in Merrick on Long Island and graduated from Calhoun High School in 1963. He studied at Mercy Hospital's School of Radiography and became a licensed radiologic technologist prior to commissioning in the US Army. As a Chief Warrant Officer in the Army, Richard served in the Vietnam War, and he had amazing stories of the action he encountered there. The U.S Army recognized Richard for his honorable service with a Distinguished Flying Cross, specifically for his heroic action in Vietnam. After his service to his country in the war, Richard returned home and married Joan Elizabeth Clair on January 31, 1970. Together, they started a family and Richard returned to college to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Science at Long Island University, CW Post Campus, all while raising his children. During his 25 years of service in the US Army and New York National Guard he mastered military helicopter aviation and created the inseparable bonds with all of his brothers in arms. He worked his way upwards to become a Hospital Administrator as his 3 children grew up in Miller Place on the North Shore of Long Island. Richard tragically lost his wife Joan in 1994 and moved upstate to Lake Katrine, New York in 1996.
The next chapter of Richard's life began when he decided to take a job as a hospital administrator in New Mexico where he hired his future wife, Carla Reed as his replacement. The adventures of Rich and Carla ensued and took them throughout the southwest and eventually to Hawaii where they married in 2006. Upon retirement and moving back to his home in Lake Katrine in 2006, Richard and Carla, both devoutly religious Catholics, dedicated their time and energy to the St. Catharine Labouré Roman Catholic Church where they found solace and community. Grandchildren came next and Richard enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them about life. Richard never missed the annual Maraglio Family Picnic at Eisenhower Park as he valued his Family and Faith above all else.Throughout his life, Richard found joy in preparing meals for a full table in the regional styles that his mother taught him. He was a passionate outdoorsman, always in wonder of the natural world, equally comfortable fishing from his boat on the open water or aviating the blue skies "above the best". Richard had the abilities of his father, able to construct or repair most anything. A man with the strength of twice his size while presenting compassion and patience double of that. His unconditional love for his Family and forgiving nature of others were without compare.
Let us remember the past with Richard's gratitude, live the present with Richard's Enthusiasm for Life and look forward to the future with Richard's unwavering Strength, Hope and Faith.
