Richard L. Markes "Dick", 89, passed away on Monday May 19, 2025.
Dick was born in Massena, NY on July 31, 1935 to the late Lawrence and Winona Markes. He earned an associates degree in drafting and design, working for a few years as a draftsman for General Electric.
For years, Dick was the owner and operator of Hess Express Gas Stations on Hiawatha Boulevard in Syracuse. He was always so proud of his Hess Stations, and was in operation during the gas crunch of the 70's and 80's.
Dick loved his classic cars. He won many prizes for his 1923 Model T Ford, and was especially fond of his 56' Chevy. He was also a talented carpenter. Dick held a wealth of carpentry knowledge, and worked on many people's houses over the years.
His handiness, and sense of humor will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Besides his parents, Richard is predeceased by his son; Lawrence "Larry" Markes, his sister; Stella, and a grandson; Michael Darby.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters; Lisa (James Hook) Merriman and Laurie VanTassel, his 'Hess Buddy'; Chuck Oster, and several grandchildren.
in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Richard's memory to St, Camillus in Syracuse.
