Richard D. Mayes SR., 65, of Lafayette, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
He was born February 12, 1960, in Lafayette to Richard Holsclaw and Betty (Crider) Smith. He attended Southwestern High School. On January 3, 1993, he married Sue E. Correll, and she survives.
Richard enjoyed playing cards, watching movies of all genre's, and cooking. He made the best BBQ Ribs and only shared his secret ingredient in his deviled eggs with 1 or 2 people. He was a very loveable, outspoken friend to all. He was a great listener and always had a shoulder for anyone who needed it.
Along with his wife Sue, he is survived by his children, Brandi (Ismael) Marques, Richard Mayes JR., Rachel Orpurt, and Rocky Lyke; a sister, Vicki Mayes; 5 grandchildren, Kayla Marquez, Carson Marquez, Dakota Orpurt, Candace Orpurt, and Destiny "Tatum" Lyke.
He was preceded in death by 3 siblings, Keith DeVoss, Linda Cain, and Brenda Green; son Richmond Lyke; and granddaughter, Courtney Marquez.
No services will be held at this time.
