Richard Harold "Mac" McAtee, 76, of Pittsburg, formerly of St. Paul, died at 1:15 p.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at ComfortCare Homes in Pittsburg where he resided since September of 2023.

Richard was born February 17, 1949 in Greenbush, Kansas, a son of Harold and Addie (Balfay) McAtee.

He grew up in the Greenbush area and graduated from St. Paul High School.

He served in the US Navy in 1967 before receiving his honorable discharge in 1971.

Richard married Peggy J. Augustin on July 9, 1976 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Greenbush and she survives of the home.

He worked at Jarboe-Lackey Feedlot east of Parsons from 1980 until starting Richard McAtee Enterprises in 2000, when he hauled river gravel and soil with his Mack dump truck. He also raised cattle.

He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Greenbush before it was closed due to a fire.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, the Osage Hills Country Club in St. Paul, a trustee for Mission Township, past Commander and Chaplain of the St. Paul American Legion, where he was a member for over 50 years, and a 50 year member of the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Parsons, Kansas.

Richard enjoyed his family, working, and playing cards. Richard was always willing to help those in the community in a time of need.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Peggy, of the home, are his daughter, Anne Fabrizius, and her husband, Luke, of Wichita, Kansas; his son, Harold McAtee, and his wife, Jessica, of Twin Falls, Idaho; his granddaughter, Adelia Kathleen McAtee; his brothers, Ed McAtee, Dennis McAtee, and Randy McAtee, his sisters, Jeanne Theis, Betty Bettega, Kathy Cichon, Nan Bortnick, Donna Renn, and Paula Duling.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Michael "Mick" McAtee, his sisters, Patricia Kirby, Francie McAtee, and Margaret McAtee.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 12, 2025 at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul with Fr. Matthew Davied as Celebrant. Burial will be at 1:30 p m., Friday at the Fort Scott National Cemetery.

The Rosary will be Prayed at 9:30 a.m., Friday prior to the Mass. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m., until 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard.

Memorials are suggested to Richard's Granddaughter's Education Fund and these may be left at the service or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
