Richard "Dick" McGill

Richard "Dick" Warren McGill, of Wauconda, Illinois, passed away surrounded with love by his daughters. Dick was born and raised in Wauconda. Son of Farrell and Thirza McGill, he was the devoted husband of the late Catherine McGill, beloved father of Kelly (husband Dave) and Jamie, and the proud grandfather of Payton and Mackenzie, who were the light of his life. Dick is also survived by his sister, Darlene. Brother of late Ken McGill (wife Charlotte) and late Farrell "Bud" McGill (wife Mary).

Dick dedicated much of his life (40+ years) to the Wauconda Fire Department, where he rose to the rank of Deputy Chief. He was deeply respected by his colleagues for his leadership, strength, and unwavering commitment to service. Known for his strong will and his sharp, dry sense of humor, Dick had a way of always telling it like it was.

Family was at the heart of everything he did. Nothing brought him greater joy than cheering on his grandchildren and spending time with those he loved most. If he was not at a sporting event or watching WNBA, most likely he was out on his tractor taking care of his lawn. Any moment he could find the time to escape he would be at their home up north, a place he absolutely loved. During the holiday's, their Wauconda home may be seen from space with all of the Christmas lights. Next time you decorate your house for the holiday's, you can think of our dad.

Dick leaves behind a legacy of dedication and love. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his lifelong service to his community, and the countless stories, laughs, and lessons he shared along the way.

A visitation for Dick and Cathy will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 Noon, at Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home, 235 N. Main St., Wauconda. Interment will follow in Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the Wauconda Fire District.
