Richard Mehrman

Richard Allan Mehrman, of River Edge, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026.

Richard was the cherished husband of Maureen Ellen (nee Neuhardt). Loving father to son, Michael (Toni), daughter, Sharon (Sarah), step father to Michael Frins (Danielle). Beloved grandfather to Dylan Mehrman, Allison and Michael Frins.

Richard held a Master of Science from The Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, and Bachelor of Science from New England College. Held professional engineering licenses in the States of New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Vermont. He served on the River Edge Planning Board from 1988 to 2025. He was Land Use Board Vice Chairman from 2017 to 2025 and Planning Board Chairman from 1993 to 1995. He also served on the Town of Cornwall NY Planning Board from 1972 to 1983. He was also a Life Member of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He worked in multiple industries including public works, industrial power industry, recreation and major corporations. He was involved in operating and refueling components of 4 Nuclear Power Plants and was lead Civil Engineer for site work, including state of the art drainage facilities for the next generation of power. As the Chief Engineer at Sterling Forest Gardens his crowning achievement was the restoration of the carousel in 1967; which was operational until 1980.

He loved spending time with his family in Vermont and travelling the world with his wife, Maureen. His goal was to also visit all 50 States, which he accomplished in 2019.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, February 15, 2026 from Noon to 2:00 PM at the Volk Leber Funeral Home at 268 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell, NJ for a Memorial Service celebrating his life.
