Richard A Miller was born October 7, 1935 in
Douglas, Oklahoma, the last of nine children born to Herman and Clara Miller. He was predeceased by his parents, two sisters: Lucille "Katie" Snodgrass and Marylou Boepple; six brothers: LeRoy, Robert, Kenneth, Alden, Darrell, Ronald; and his step-son Jim Newbould. He passed away in the arms of his adoring wife, Yvonne, on September 10, 2023 at their home in
Washington, Utah.
Dick was salutatorian of his 1953 high school graduating class in
Douglas, Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma State University studying agriculture, and later transferred to Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa on an athletic scholarship. He was proficient as a baseball catcher and as a basketball center and forward. He played a few seasons of semi-pro baseball as a catcher in the Oklahoma Baseball League. After graduating from Northern with a degree in Commerce, Dick continued his education at Enid Business College, earning his Accounting Degree.
Dick served his country honorably in the US Army Adjutant General's Corps, and spent his early adult years working for Conoco Oil as an auditor for the western United States, and later as a distributor. From 1978 – 1998, he worked as a tax accountant in
Salt Lake City, Utah, and later developed his own accounting business in
Bountiful, Utah.
Dick had been a loyal and sustaining member of the Bountiful Elks Lodge #2442 since 1986, where he held many leadership positions, including twice as the Lodge Exalted Ruler (1994-95 and 1995-96), and as the Utah State Elk's Treasurer from 1996-2001.
Dick married Sally Winget in 1961 and adopted her two children, Jeffery and Jennifer. Several years later, their daughter Tiffany was born. Those children gave him five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dick and Sally divorced in 1995.
In 1996 Dick married his best friend, Yvonne Rasmussen, in
Bountiful, Utah. He inherited three step-children: Robert, James, and Emily, and later gained four new grandchildren.
Dick was easily recognized as the life of the party at many social gatherings. He will be remembered for his integrity and for his quick wit. He was intelligent, merciful, fiercely loyal, tender-hearted, fun, respectful, and polite.
Raised by humble and devout Lutheran parents, Dick's favorite bible scripture is the 23rd Psalm of David.
"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever."
Dick was loved and admired by his large surviving family: his wife Yvonne R Miller; his children Jeffrey (Susan) Miller, Jennifer (Paul) Merrill, and Tiffany Miller Gulden (John Parks); his stepchildren Robert (Nancy) Newbould, and Emily Newbould; his grandchildren Justin Miller, Jeremy (Megan) Miller, Ashley Merrill, Cody (Jenna) Merrill, Jill Miller (Jeff Leighton), Jordan Newbould, Noah (Ceirra) Newbould, Stone Newbould, and Izzy Newbould; and his great-grandchildren Cadence and Conor Merrill, Cocoa and Roux Miller, Indie and Lennon Leighton. Dick is also survived by his brother-in-law Dan (Elaine) Rasmussen, and sisters-in-law Mary (Richard) Grover, Norma Miller, and Deanna Miller, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Memorial service will be held at a later date in the
