Richard E. Morrissette Sr, age 95, of Edgewater Florida lost his battle against a progressive illness on Monday October 28th. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends.
Richard is survived by his wife Paula (Hayes) Morrissette, his daughter Karen Jackvony, son Richard Morrissette Jr., son Mark Morrissette and his wife Michelle all of Edgewater Florida. He is also survived by three grandchildren Michelle Pelletier of Warwick Rhode Island, Kristen Robinson of Palm Coast Florida, and Logan Morrissette of Ormond Beach Florida. He was blessed to have two great-grandchildren: Kylie Jackvony and Ashlyn Robinson also of Florida, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard is predeceased by his parents, his sister Theresa Lilley, and a brother Roland Morrissette who was killed while serving in the Navy during the Korean War. Richard also proudly served his country as a Naval Radarman during the Korean War, serving most of his service aboard the destroyer USS Brownson (DD-868).
Richard was a High School Graduate and spent most of his career as a machinist and later as a machine shop supervisor. Prior to his retirement, he proudly worked as a courier for LabCorp in Worcester, MA. He held himself to high standards in every aspect of his work life and daily life.
He enjoyed music, dancing of all kinds, but especially Square Dancing. He enjoyed bowling and was a very gifted bowler. As a 10-year-old boy, he set pins by hand at the bowling alley in Webster, MA to help support his family.
His passion however was golf and at his best he proudly held a handicap of 11 and scored 2 holes-in-one. He exercised regularly at the gym until his illness made most physical activity impossible for him.
He was a member of the Chester P. Tuttle Post 279 in Auburn, MA and was recently awarded a 50-year membership honor from that Post. He was also a member of AMVETS Post 2 in Edgewater, FL.
He made friends easily and it was difficult for he and his wife to go anywhere in Worcester MA, where they lived, until moving to Florida six- and one-half years ago, without meeting someone who knew him. He loved to talk to people and they always responded to his smile and good humor. He respected everyone without discrimination and loved all animals, but especially his grand dogs and the giraffes at a local zoo.
Family and friends are invited to remember and honor Richard’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Wednesday, Nov. 6th from 4 to 7 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7th at 10:30 a.m. in St. Marks Church, 356 Boston Road, Sutton with burial to follow in WCMP, Paxton.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research
