Richard "Ricky" Morrissey, 55, of West Warwick, RI, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Saturday, March 5, 2022. Born in Warwick, RI, he was the son of Arthur Richard and Donna (Clarke) Morrissey.
Ricky is survived by his son, Michael and one sister, Robyn, her husband Angelo, and nephews who loved him very much.
What Ricky loved most in this world was his family. His smile was genuine, and his laugh was contagious. Ricky was fiercely protective of those he loved with every cell of his being. Helping others when given the opportunity was what he honored most.
The last year of Ricky's life we witnessed a humbled man strive to right wrongs, help others, and build trust again.
Ricky fought hard with everything he had to be the person he was born to be. He appreciated the smallest gifts in life and believed that simply being alive was the special occasion. Through his trials, errors, and triumphs, he taught us that struggling does not mean failure. His determination, humor, courage, sense of hope and sharp mind helped him overcome obstacles most mortal beings could not fathom. His dream of being a good father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend was never lost in past regrets. His journey was a winding one with many hills and valleys. He woke up every day wanting to be a contributing member of a partly broken society that needed fixing. He thrived on being needed. He had a voracious thirst for learning and against all odds, he emerged the victor and earned an Associate degree at a Community College.
He believed in God and befriended Jesus. He knew how deeply his family loved him. His parents especially, never gave up hope and were by his side every single step, leap and fall along the way.
He was loved by those who really knew him. He made friends easily. He was a hard worker who earned the respect of his cohorts, colleagues, and employers.
As we grieve, we will smile through our memories and stories. We will also shed tears for a lifetime. We will pray and rejoice knowing his struggles are no more as he is flying with angels now.
It will be through our lessons learned from his life story that we will forge ahead with a stronger sense of compassion, a deeper willingness to forgive, and a renewed patience for healing. Through our thoughts and actions, we will be reminded of what a good, loving, sensitive, and kind man Ricky was. He was our biggest teacher in every aspect of our lives. His appreciation for the simple blessings in life will be etched in our hearts and passed on for generations to come.
A mass of Christian burial to celebrate Ricky's life will be held at Saints John and Paul Church, 341 South Main Street, Coventry, RI, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 12, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you carry out a random act of kindness for someone.
