RICHARD "MORT" FRANK MORTENSEN

Richard F. Mortensen passed away May 20th, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. Mort was born December 31, 1940 in Alamosa, Colorado to Frank and Aida Mortensen. He was the fourth born of five children. Mort grew up in Roy, Utah where he attended Weber High School. At the age of 19 he joined the Navy and became a member of the Sea Bees where he trained to become a Heavy Equipment Operator. He served in Antarctica where he built roads, dams, runways, and airports. He was also a cook in the Navy, and he was a great cook! He swore like the sailor he was!

When he returned to the states he worked in several positions as a Heavy Equipment Operator. In 1971 he married Dixie Lee Merriam and they had a son, Jay Mortensen. They were later divorced. In 1980 he started working for Jetway installing Jetways in almost every country in the world including Russia, China, Japan, and Saudi Arabia. He lived a life full of adventure, was a hard worker, and had many interesting stories to tell. He had the best sense of humor and a hardy laugh to go along with it.

Surviving are his children: Jay Mortensen and David Marra (Janet). He is also survived by his granddaughter, Taylor Mortensen and grandsons, Shawn Marra (Rebecca), Brian Marra (Latasha), Sheldon Marra (Jessica) and Taran Marra, and his brother Donald Mortensen. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Keith Mortensen and his sisters, Jerre M. Todd (Joseph) and Dottie Ann Mortensen.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Myers Mortuary at 5865 South 1900 West in Roy, Utah from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Monday June 7, 2021.
