Richard Mosrie Obituary

MOSRIE, Richard

Richard M. Mosrie, devoted husband, father, and caring friend, passed away on September 29, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret. He was born on January 25, 1927 to Richard M. and Tillie Mosrie in Princeton, West Virginia. At an early age the family moved to nearby Matoaka, West Virginia where he remained through his public school years and where lifelong friendships were formed. After graduating from high school, he served a short tour of duty in the United States Maritime Service prior to enrolling in Concord College where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1950 he married his home town girlfriend Margaret Sizemore which lasted a life time. The following year Richard entered the United States Army and was enrolled in the Officer Candidate School where he earned a second lieutenant commission and was assigned to Aberdine Proving Ground, Maryland. He initially served as Headquarters Commandant before being assigned to serve as Aid to the Commanding General Jonathan Holman. Later he was invited to make the Army a career and was offered a regular army commission. Although the army and particularly General Holman had such a positive and lasting effect on his life he elected to return to civilian life. After military service he enrolled in the graduate program at Georgia Tech and earned a Master's Degree in Industrial Management. Upon graduation Richard accepted a position with the B & O Railroad in Baltimore Maryland as Systems Analyst to help design, program and implement business applications on their first computer system. The project became operative in 1959 at which time he and his wife Margaret returned to Atlanta where he had accepted an opportunity to serve on the staff of the Fulton National Bank with duties that included assisting in making effective organizational changes and to assist in the evaluation, selection and implementation of a computer based data processing program. The computer phase was completed in the early sixties with Fulton National Bank, under the leadership of the bank president Mr. Gordon Jones, becoming the first Georgia bank to automate bank applications. After his assignment with the bank was completed, he continued his consulting activities until 1967 when he founded Management Control Methods, Inc. which was organized to provide management and data processing support as well as allied services to business, industry and government. He served as CEO of MCM until his retirement in 2004. During the many years of operation, he and MCM were involved with many innovations designed to improve controls, reduce cost and generally provide a better end product. Throughout his business and personal life, he was known to be a responsive, understanding, considerate and caring individual. He and his wife, Margaret, were dedicated to their faith which was expressed through their active involvement in their church, St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church. Since joining in 1964, Richard served numerous times on the Vestry as well as chaired or served on many standing or special committees. Their dedication to the mission of the church expressed their belief. Richard is survived by his two sons, Rich and Phil; brother-in-law, Malcolm Linkous; nephew, Mark Linkous; niece, Karon Dodson and husband, Jerry, and their son, Casey.

I met Dick thru my dear friend and coworker Pat while working at Lake Lanier. Quickly we became friends and began meeting for lunch regularly. I very much enjoyed our time
together and learned much as he shared wisdom about his faith, life and family. It was my honor to know and spend time with Dick and I look forward to seeing him again some day in Glory!
