Dr. Richard Ng, a loving father and esteemed physician, passed away on January 16, 2025 at the age of 73. Born in Hong Kong, Richard embarked on a journey to the United States in 1971, chasing the American Dream with a brave heart and only fifty dollars in his pocket. His story is one of resilience, dedication, and a lifelong commitment to bridging cultural gaps.
Richard's early years were spent in the bustling Kowloon City, where he received a British education and came to know Jesus. He left behind a loving family with the dream of becoming a doctor in the U.S., supported by a kind family in Elmhurst that took him in. Richard's adaptability and perseverance were evident as he balanced working 4 jobs at one point while also earning his degree from Elmhurst College and later a medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine.
A dedicated physician, Dr. Ng served the community with compassion, focusing on pain management and advocating for patients' rights. His career was marked by many achievements, including the authoring of acclaimed, published books on aging gracefully in the modern world and the growing concerns around dementia and ways to address.
Richard was a proud Chinese American, often reflecting on his heritage and the experiences of Chinese immigrants in the U.S. He was a storyteller, sharing the history and traditions of his ancestors while advocating for understanding and acceptance across cultures.
He is survived by his children: David, Thomas, Kevin, and Sarah, his sister Ruth and his brothers Barney and Thomas. Richard's legacy will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, his patients, and his community.
Visitation Sunday January 19, 2025 from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. at Cappetta's West Suburban Funeral Home & Cremation Services 39 N. Cass Ave., Westmont. Funeral Services Sunday 12:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment Monday January 20 at Elm Lawn Cemetery
Dr. Richard Ng will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
