Richard Lee Peele, Sr. age 78, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023, at Morrison Manor in Laurinburg, NC. He was born on December 22, 1944, in Bennettsville to the late Merritt Jr. "Bob" & Sue Catherine Stanton Peele. Richard graduated from Gibson High School in Gibson, North Carolina. He was married to Marie Meggs Peele for 58 years. Richard was the owner and operator of Bennettsville Auto Parts before his retirement in December of 2009. He was a member of Christ Church of Bennettsville where he served as Chairman of the Trustees for several years. Richard was a certified Lay Speaker with the Methodist Conference and a member of the Marlboro Men's Ministry. He loved mission work both locally and abroad and was blessed to go to several countries to serve. Richard loved the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents listed above; son, Richard L. Peele Jr.; sister, Cathy Odom; and brother-in-law, Billy Davis.
Richard leaves behind to cherish his memory: his wife, Marie Meggs Peele of the home; sisters, Bobbie Sue Davis of Bennettsville, SC, Diane Conyers (Charles) of Lexington, SC, and Carolyn Paul (Petie) of Gibson, NC; grandson, Dustin Hayes (Tesia); great grandchildren, Cooper, Rhett & Axel; and many other beloved family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11 :00 A.M. Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Pinecrest Cemetery in Gibson, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Church of Bennettsville, P.O. Box 75 Bennettsville, SC 29512.
