Richard Calvin Phipps of 902 South Leon in Monahans, Texas passed away at his residence on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 6:45 A.M. at the age of 81. He was born in Stamford, Texas on January 2, 1944, to his parents Silas Floyd Phipps and Minnie Viola (McNeil) Phipps.
Calvin, as he was known to family and friends, accepted The Lord Jesus into his life. Other highlights in his life were his family, hunting, and fishing. Of course, his grandchildren were truly held in high esteem. His occupations included work in construction. He was an employee of Marks Crane and Rigging until the grand orchestration of Dutcher-Phipps in 1973. Also, he was from the beginning an original member of the Tejas Bank Board. He served as President and Board Member of the Kermit Bass Club and was the co-owner of the Diablo Boat Storage in Del Rio, Texas since 2011.
Survivors include his wife Lynda Phipps, and sons C.W. Phipps (Leisa), Richard Phipps (Michelle), Clint Phipps (Karla), Tim Brandenburg (Roxanne), and Gary Brandenburg. His brother and sister Rondal Phipps and Helen Stephens are also among the survivors.
Surviving grandchildren include Jenna Hawthorne, Laura Phipps, Hannah Phipps, Spensor Phipps (Avery), Jensen Baron (Cameron), Cydnee Heinemann (Michael), Shelbee Phipps, Daniel Brandenburg, and Aaron Brandenburg. Five surviving great-grandchildren are Sladen Phipps, Bruen Phipps, Brixtyn Phipps, Brexlie Barton, and Sophie Ramirez.
He is lovingly remembered and deeply cherished by the family of Lynda B. Phipps. They are Matthew and Amy Williams, Malcham and Melanie Williams, Chris and Olivia Chase, Steve and Melynda Heller, Myranda Williams, Mark and Krista Williams, as well as 25 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, all to whom he was known as Papa Calvin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Minnie Phipps, by his late wife Irma Phipps, by his siblings Sonny Phipps, Dean Phipps, and Mildred Dixon, and by his grandson Ross Phipps.
Harkey Funeral Home oversees arrangements. A wake or visitation of family and friends will be held on Friday, August 8,2025, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Harkey Funeral Home. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 9,2025 at 11:00 am at Southside Baptist Church, here in Monahans Texas with Pastors Josh Rieff and Jeppie Wilson officiating.
