Richard Lawrence “Pete” Porter, 88, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024 in the Chambersburg Hospital. He was born on August 31, 1936 to the late Dicia (Riley) and T. Lester Porter in Bakersfield, CA. He was raised in Bakersfield, CA and graduated from Fresno State University with a degree in electrical engineering in 1959.
Pete started working for Western Electric out of college and traveled frequently maintaining radar systems. He met his wife, Donna Edelle Porter, in Kalispell, MT. They married on September 2, 1961.
Pete provided well for his family and retired from Verizon in 1991. After Pete retired, he and Donna traveled in an RV for several years and then settled in Fayetteville, PA for the warmer months and in Yuma, AZ during the cold. Pete enjoyed golfing and getting together with friends and family.
In addition to his beloved wife, Donna, Pete is survived by a daughter, Teresa Griffin and husband Rick; a son, Richard Porter, Jr. and wife Margaret; five grandchildren, Danny and wife Sari, Angie, Vivian, Tara, and Zach; and one great grandchild, Viviana Joy. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Alice, and two brothers Tom and Orville.
Services and interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
