TROY – Richard W. Post, 84, of Troy passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Catskill on May 17, 1941 a son of the late Lyle and Virginia (Bartlett) Post. Richard was raised in Catskill where he graduated from Catskill High School. He played baseball and soccer and was manager for the baseball and basketball team among many other school activities. He was an Eagle Scout in Post 11. Richard attended SUNY Canton where he earned his Associates Degree in Mechanical Technology.
He entered the U.S. Air Force in January 1962 and served during the Vietnam War, flying many missions earning two Distinguished Flying Crosses.
After eight years of active duty, Richard decided to enter civilian life alongside his wife Ethel and their three young children, working as a research technician for Huyck Research Center in Rensselaer. Together, they were active members of the former Mount Ida Community Baptist Church in Troy.
A few years later, Richard once again wanted to serve his country, so he enlisted into the Air National Guard in 1974 serving in the 139th Tactical Airlift Squadron and was promoted several times for his excellent work, ascending to the rank of Captain. He retired as a Major in the Air Force Reserves.
Following the closing of Huyck Research Center in Rensselaer, Richard was brought on as a foreman at Minneck Brick Works in Coeymans because of his military training and supervisory skills. He was later recruited into Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna from where he retired.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ethel in 2021 and his brother, Harold Post earlier this year.
Richard is survived by his children, Deborah (Thomas) Bevevino, Kevin (Kelly) Post, Rebecca (Edward) Liga; his grandchildren, Nicholas (Miranda)Bevevino, Laura (Ian) Dugan, Joshua (Ashley) Bevevino, Christopher (Emma) Bevevino, Anthony Liga, Nathan (Emi) Liga; his great grandchildren, Rosie, Jude and Scout; his siblings, David (Janice) Post and Sharon (Donald) Smith as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:30 am immediately followed by a service of remembrance for Richard on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at the Hoosic Valley Community Church, 2024 Route 40, Schaghticoke, NY. Services of committal and military honors will follow at 2:00 pm at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.
Memorial Contributions: Hoosic Valley Community Church in Schaghticoke, Mt Ida Community Food Pantry, Rock Mountain Bible Camp, PA or Capital District Youth For Christ.
