TROY – Richard W. Post, 84, of Troy passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Catskill on May 17, 1941 a son of the late Lyle and Virginia (Bartlett) Post. Richard was raised in Catskill where he graduated from Catskill High School. He played baseball and soccer and was manager for the baseball and basketball team among many other school activities. He was an Eagle Scout in Post 11. Richard attended SUNY Canton where he earned his Associates Degree in Mechanical Technology.

He entered the U.S. Air Force in January 1962 and served during the Vietnam War, flying many missions earning two Distinguished Flying Crosses.

A few years later, Richard once again wanted to serve his country, so he enlisted into the Air National Guard in 1974 serving in the 139th Tactical Airlift Squadron and was promoted several times for his excellent work, ascending to the rank of Captain. He retired as a Major in the Air Force Reserves.

Following the closing of Huyck Research Center in Rensselaer, Richard was brought on as a foreman at Minneck Brick Works in Coeymans because of his military training and supervisory skills. He was later recruited into Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna from where he retired.
