Riverton - Richard "Rich" Louis Pottier Sr., 63, of Riverton, Illinois, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield. Rich was born Aug. 31, 1959, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Louis F. and Mary E. Ferguson Pottier. Rich married Cynthia L. Margrave June 22, 1979, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Rich was preceded in death by his parents.
Rich was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Riverton. Family, faith and community were very important to Rich, and he devoted his life, love and service to them. He loved his family and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.
Rich earned his Eagle Scout in 1975. He worked at Cargill Flour Milling for 22 years before he and his wife, Cindy, purchased KnR Tomahawk Awards in Springfield in 2001.
Rich was active in several civic and community activities, including as a member and past president of the Riverton Area Fire Protection District's board, and as a trustee on Riverton's village board. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church's Finance Committee, Knights of Columbus Marian Council 3914 in Riverton, where he was a past Grand Knight, and he was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Griffin Assembly 0201. Rich also served on the Boy Scouts of America's Abraham Lincoln Council's Eagle Board of Review.
Rich is survived by his wife, Cindy Pottier, of Riverton; one son, Richard L. (wife, Kaitlin) Pottier Jr., of Springfield; two daughters, Stephanie A. Danenberger of Springfield and Christina M. (Josh Carver) Pottier of Riverton; six grandchildren, Kadence, Madalyn, Kennedy, Michael, Louis and Alina; three brothers, Paul (wife, Jan) Pottier of Gower, Missouri, John (wife, Donna) Pottier of Overland Park, Kansas, and Larry (wife, Jamie) Pottier of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; three sisters, Cathy Pacheco of Kansas City, Kansas, Peggy (husband, Dennis) Hanson of Bethany, Missouri, and Patty Moore of Kansas City, Kansas; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rich's family will meet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at St. James Catholic Church at 112 N. Sixth St. in Riverton, with Rev. Raphael Paul DeMoreno officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor Cemetery in Spaulding.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marian Banquet Hall (Riverton KC Hall), 335 S. Fourth St., Riverton, IL 62561.

His strength in challenge and adversity, his positive nature, his smile, his laugh. Thank you Uncle Richard. We are family through two marriages, but you were a great Uncle who demonstrated how strong a gentle and patient man could be. My thoughts and love are with you all.
