Dick passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024 at the age of 78. He was the oldest of 7 children and was predeceased by his parents, Louie and Angie Povio.
Dick is survived by his sons, R.J. and Kevin Povio; Brothers, Michael (Marcia) Povio and Louis Povio; Sisters, Carol (John) Secash, LouAnn (Roxy) Serusa), Marilyn Eichas Povio and Renee Povio, Aunt Mary Pedulla; Many nieces, nephews.
Lately it became most difficult for him to get around. Nevertheless, earlier in the week he planned to join his family on Christmas Eve, a Povio tradition for nearly 6 decades. Fate changed his plan. Still the family gathered to honor his mom and dad, toast in his honor with his favorite scotch and share memories as if he was there - just as he would have wanted.
Fifty years ago, Dick started the still thriving business, Contemporary Carpet Cleaning. His sons RJ and Kevin continue the legacy. Since 1974 their client base has grown to thousands of residential and commercial customers. Because of his loyal staff, their customers are confident that the quality of their work cannot be duplicated. Up until his death he was the voice that answered customers' calls. He was boisterous for sure. He always enjoyed catching up with returning customers, often telling them more than they wanted to know on the topic of his choice.
Dick had many high school friends who he regularly enjoyed bantering with. Joe Arnone, Sam Delucia just to name a few.
Fast forward to Gates. Who would have known neighbors would become lifelong friends. Across the fence, Geno Cervini became a third son to Dick and RJ's best friend today. As a teen, Geno worked for him and now runs a successful carpet cleaning business. The Horning's lived next door. RJ tormented Mike Horning as a 4-year-old stealing his trucks and hiding them in his sandbox. The neighbors on Geraldine Parkway tolerated 50+ friends attending barbeques, pool parties and fireworks.
Off to Bridgewood Drive in Fairport when RJ and Kevin were in 8th and 10th grade. Kevin continued to play basketball thru high school and the Red Raiders won some championships and he received several individual awards. It wasn't until then that Dick understood basketball terms like block out and triple double. That move brought a new group of Eastside friends. The Clay family was one of the first to welcome us. Their annual Christmas Party was rarely missed.
He and his family spent many years boating on his beloved "Happy Ours". From Mohawk Yacht Club around Irondequoit Bay or off to Lake Ontario, Sodus Bay, Coburg, Toronto, Fair Haven or summer cottages in July with the Teugeman's and Caruso's. As long he was boating, it just didn't matter the destination.
Although he hasn't been boating recently, he still looked forward to his Wednesday night steak nights and cigar parties at the Mohawk with Ricky, Skuse, Howie, Bobby, Billy, Lou, Kenny, Steve, both Charlie's and Tony.
Over the years, he enjoyed family vacations to Greek Peek and gatherings with the Maggio and Privitera families hosted by Mary Maggio at her home in Gates
He had been a LeBron James fan since 2003. He has his rookie, NBA draft card, one of his framed and signed jersey and a 3' wall decal of him in his condo. He rarely missed an NBA game playing as a Cavalier, Heat or Laker. He would regularly call RJ, Kevin and sister Renee during a game immediately after he made a great play or broke another record.
Per his wishes, no calling hours, but a celebration of his life will be held at a later date set at the families' discretion.
