Richard Pulaski Obituary
Richard J. Pulaski, a long-time resident of Shelburne, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on May 21, 2025, at the Life Care Center in New Port Richey, Florida.
Born in Greenfield, Massachusetts, on November 8, 1940, Richard was the son of Frank A. and Mary A. (Sopollec) Pulaski. He graduated from Greenfield High School with the Class of 1958.
Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Paula (Scepkoski), whom he married on April 27, 1968. Together, they raised two daughters who brought him great pride and joy: Jill Pulaski-Burke (Tim) of Check, Virginia, with grandchildren Liam and Elise; and Jessica Leonard (John) of Odessa, Florida, with grandchildren Maya and Carter. He cherished every moment he spent with his family and found immense joy in his role as a grandfather.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Blair of Amherst, his sister-in-law, Gloria Pulaski of Greenfield, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Francis, Henry, and Walter.
Richard dedicated over three decades of service to the Greenfield School Department, retiring in 2009. Known for his strong work ethic and dependability, he served in many roles - as a maintenance worker, custodian, school bus driver, and snowplow operator. His quiet dedication made a lasting impact on the community.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Richard felt most at peace in nature. He especially loved hiking Mount Washington, a feat he accomplished many times. He also treasured family camping trips, whether across New England or on cross-country adventures, and he looked forward to visits with loved ones in Florida. He enjoyed golfing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and was a loyal fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox, attending games whenever he could.
Richard found joy and serenity in country life. He and Paula built their home on Fiske Mill Road in Shelburne, where they lived for 46 happy years before relocating permanently to Florida in 2018. He was a quiet, thoughtful man who found contentment in life's simple pleasures - especially time spent outdoors with his faithful dog, Degan.
A lifelong car enthusiast, Richard had a passion for classic cars and trucks. He restored and took great pride in his 1965 Mustang and 1966 Chevy Nova SS. He attended countless car shows in Carlisle and Hershey, Pennsylvania, often sharing his love of vintage vehicles with friends and family.
Richard was a dedicated member of the Jehovah's Witnesses and attended the congregation in Shelburne Falls for many years. After relocating, he became part of the Anclote congregation in Holiday, FL.
A burial service will be held in Shelburne, Massachusetts, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, for family and close friends, with Dennis Benz officiating. A reception will follow to celebrate Richard's life and the memories he leaves behind.
