Richard Lee Reising, the son of Andrew G. and Esther (Engel) Reising, was a New Years Day baby and was born on January 1, 1946, in Carroll, Iowa. He graduated from Bishop Garrigan in 1964. After graduation, Richard was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. On June 1, 1968, Richard was united in marriage to Arlene Goetz in Wesley, Iowa. During his early working career, Richard was employed by Standard Oil and later worked for the United States Post Office doing maintenance work. Richard also enjoyed working on his many rental properties and made many lasting friendships with his tenants.
Richard also found joy in life's simple pleasures - tending to his vegetable garden and orchard, crafting beautiful things in his woodworking shop, and sharing countless cups of coffee and conversation with his close-knit group of coffee buddies. He was also known to have a bag full of candy suckers in his truck to hand out at his rental properties, when the children would come running. Above all, his greatest happiness came from time spent with his family and those he held dear.
Richard's unwavering faith guided him throughout his life and was evident in the way he lived - with generosity, kindness and humility. He was a proud Veteran who served his country with honor. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, laughter, and steadfast devotion. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Left to cherish Richard's memory are his wife of 56 years: Arlene; children: John Reising of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Lynn (Brent) Weringa of Spirit Lake and Cyndi (Jason Foster) Hanna of Kenai, Alaska; grandchildren: Ashley Beisch, Aaron Weringa, Ashley Weringa, Spencer Burcham, Christopher Reising, Abby Hanna and Jessica Hanna; great grandchild: Oakley Abrahamson; siblings: Inez Eden of Woden, Rosa Lee Studer of Algona, James Reising of Garner, Thomas (Mary Ann) Reising of Algona, Marlene Schneider of Algona, Bonnie (Ken) Graham of Webster City, Linda (Jim) Schoby of Algona and Andrew C.
