It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Tech, a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend. Richard departed from this world on January 7, 2024, at the age of 66.

Born on April 25, 1957, Richard’s journey began in the towns of Denison and Dow City, where he spent his formative years and attended Dow City-Arion community schools. These early experiences shaped the compassionate and hardworking individual that Richard would become.

On August 11, 1977, Richard was united in marriage to Dorothy Shanon in Council Bluffs. Together they built a beautiful family and were blessed with three children: Chadrick, Sara, and Alex. Although Richard and Dorothy eventually parted ways in marriage, they remained close friends and continued to co-parent their children.

In his career, Richard wore many hats, showcasing his versatility and dedication. He lent his skills to construction projects with friends, contributed hard work to Purity Farms, and found his true passion behind the wheel of a truck. The majority of his professional life was spent driving trucks for reputable companies like Werner and Crete carriers. His love for the open road and the freedom it brought fueled his enthusiasm for each journey. Despite any challenges he faced, Richard had a remarkable ability to find silver linings in even the most difficult situations, turning adversity into opportunities for growth and resilience.

One of Richard's greatest joys in life was being with his family, particularly his children residing in Colorado. His spontaneous spirit led him to embark on road trips to share precious moments with those he held dear. The open road was not just a means of transportation for Richard; it was a canvas for creating memories and fostering connections.

Richard's vibrant personality was evident in his feistiness and humor. He was always laughing and sharing witty observations. Beneath this surface was the heart of the most selfless person. Richard was always ready to extend a helping hand to friends and strangers alike, expecting nothing in return. His generosity knew no bounds, even when faced with personal challenges.

In his leisure time, Richard enjoyed watching Iowa and Iowa State football, tinkering with cars, playing with his dog, listening to music, and spending time with his girlfriend, Melanie. Among these pastimes, Richard enjoyed talking with his children the most of all. The bond he shared with them was evident in the moments spent exchanging stories, sharing laughter, and offering guidance.

The legacy of Richard Tech is one of resilience, generosity, and a love for life's simple pleasures. As we remember him, let us honor the man who drove through life with determination, touched the hearts of many, and left an enduring impact on those fortunate enough to know him. Richard's spirit will forever live on in the memories of the lives he touched and the kindness he shared with the world.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Sara Hart of Fort Collins, Colorado; son, Alex Tech (Savanna Pague) of Denver, Colorado; their mother, Dorothy Tech of Denison; brother Larry Tech (Shirley) of Spirit Lake; sister, Denise Brink (Tom) of Dow City; other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Tech; father, Vern Tech Jr.; son, Chadrick Tech; brother, Allen Tech; and sister, Jacqueline Tech.

Richard's visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024 with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. His graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024 in the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City. Memorials may be directed to the family.
