Richard R. "Dick" Rogers passed away at home in Walden, NY on March 18, after a well-fought battle against leukemia. He was 82 years old.

Richard was born in Beacon, NY on April 8, 1939, to Mildred and Thomas Rogers. He grew up in the Village of Wappingers Falls and was a graduate of Wappingers High School. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army and continued his education at Dutchess Community College and New Paltz, where he earned his teacher certification and a master's degree. On August 3, 1963, Richard married Caroline Olheiser in St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a lifetime resident of Wappingers until retirement.

Richard was a well respected and beloved teacher for 34 years in the Wappingers Central School District. Through his years of teaching, He inspired many of his students and received numerous honors and awards. Outside of the classroom, he was committed to serving his community: umpiring baseball and softball throughout the Hudson Valley from high school to collegiate level, coaching basketball for the CYO, and volunteering in Orange County to drive those in need to doctor appointments.

His wife, Caroline, was by his side throughout their loving 58 years of marriage. Richard loved sports. He played basketball, softball, baseball, and enjoyed his time on the golf course playing with his friends in various leagues. He was recognized for his athletic accomplishments with his induction into the Dutchess County Baseball Hall of Fame and the Thomas D. Macrini Sports Hall of Fame. He was devoted to his wife and family and fostered special relationships with each of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. To be around him was to smile and laugh. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.

Richard is predeceased by his parents; his brother, Thomas; and his sons-in-law, Edward Maier and Christopher Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Caroline J. Rogers of Walden, NY, and his four children: Richard, and wife Ursula, of Raleigh, NC; Karen Anderson of Milford, PA; Colleen Maier of Montgomery, NY; and Cathy Fay of Raleigh, NC. He was a loving grandfather to 8 granddaughters: Samantha, Alexis, and Morgan Maier; Casey and Michaela Lawlor; Madelyn McKinney; Caroline and Annika Rogers; and great-grandfather to Henry Martin, Brady Craig, and Rylynn Seeley.
