Richard (Rick) J. Rogers of Rock Island found peace on September 16th, 2025. Richard was born Sept. 30, 1948 in El Cajon, CA. He relocated to Rock Island, IL in 1991.
A man of many interests and talents, he had a career that ran the gamut from sous chef to bus driver and from traffic cop to corrections administration. Eventually retiring from the State of Illinois Department of Corrections in 2011. A veteran of the US Armed services, Sgt. Rogers proudly served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1971.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, USAF Maj. Jerome M. Rapport, Drummond Burch Rogers Jr., Julia H. Rogers, his sister, Joyce A. Kitchell, and his second wife Rhonda Lopez, to whom he’d been married for 37 years. He. Is survived by his son, Andrew Rogers, his daughter, Marjorie La Costa, and his granddaughter, Sophia Rogers. He is also survived by his son in law, Michael La Costa, and daughter in law, Stacy Steinkuller.
Memorials to QCPAWS/RI Animal Shelter. Cremation with no services will be followed by internment at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery.
